dc.description.abstract | Background. There were 38,4 million people with HIV infection in 2021. As many as 36,7 million of them aged over 15 years old and 1,7 million people aged 0-14 years old. As many as 46% of adolescents have had premarital sexual activity. A study showed that the level of knowledge of adolescents about HIV infection is still lacking generally. Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of HIV infection education on the level of knowledge about HIV infection in adolescents. Methods. This is a quasi experimental study to 10th grade students of senior high school in Harapan 1 Medan. Students filled out a questionnaire consist of 34 questions before and after a lecture about HIV infection for pre test and post test, respectively. Incomplete questionnaires will be excluded. Changes in the mean pre test and post test scores will be analyzed using a Wilcoxon test with significant P value <0,05. Results. Of 154 samples, the lowest and highest scores for the pre test were 0 and 29, respectively. And the lowest and highest scores for the post test were 12 and 32, respectively. Pre test and post test mean score were 22.61 and 24.99, respectively (p = 0,01). Conclusions. Lecture method is effective in increasing knowledge about HIV infection in adolescents. | en_US |
