Gambaran Tingkat Pengetahuan Mahasiswa Non Kesehatan Universitas Sumatera Utara Tentang Bantuan Hidup Dasar sebagai Pertolongan Pertama Henti Jantung pada Orang Dewasa

Abstract

Background. Hearts disease is still a disease with the highest mortality rate in the word. About 600,000 deaths every year in the United States are caused by heart. The initial treatment that can be given is by providing Basic Life Support (BLS) which can be done by the whole community, therefore it requires good knowledge by everyone to be able to provide quick and accurate treatment at the scene of the incident. Aim. The study aims to explore the understanding of non-medical student's at the University of North Sumatera regarding Basic Life Support (BLS) as the primary assistance in case adult cardiac arrest. Methods. The study uses a analytic descriptive survey research method with the cross-sectional approach. The measurement of knowledge is conducted using questionnaire sheets and Google Forms. The sampling technique used is Consecutive Sampling. The research sample consists of 448 students conducted in three faculties: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Faculty of Agriculture at the Universuty of North Sumatra. Results. From the results of the study involving 448 respondents, the level of knowledge among non-medical stidents is classified as insufficient, with 237 respondents (52.9%), 159 respondents (35.5%) classified as Adequate, and 52 respondents (11.6%) classified as Good. Conclusion. This research indicates that the majority of non-medical students have very limited knowledge aboud Basic Life Support (BLS).
