Gambaran Penggunaan Pengobatan Komplementer Alternatif pada Pasien Kanker Serviks di RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan
Abstract
Background. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in Indonesia. As
as a cultural-diversity country, Indonesia has it’s own culture called traditional
health culture that generates traditional medicine systems (potentially as a
complementary medicine). Combination of conventional and complementary and
alternative medicine (CAM) is often applied to cancer patients Objective. To
explore the CAM use in cervical cancer patients in Haji Adam Malik General
Hospital, Medan. Method. A descriptive study with a cross sectional approach
method collected through interview with questionnaire from cervical patients in
Oncology Clinic, Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan from July - September
2023. Results. Fifty respondents were interviewed. The types of CAM used were
nutritional therapy (39.3%), mind-body interventions (27.1%), herbs (23.4%),
massage (9.3%), and acupuncture (0.9%). The most used CAM combination is
combination of 2 types CAM (74%), 82% of respondents were satisfied with CAM,
and 48% of respondents did not inform doctor regarding the CAM used.
Conclusion. Nutritional therapy is the most common cam use by respondents.
Almost of all the cervical cancer patients in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital,
Medan use more than 1 type of CAM and have never left any conventional
treatment. However, only a few respondents inform the doctor about the CAM
they’re using.
