Introduction. Preeclampsia is one of the causes of maternal death. Preeclampsia has several risk factors. Objective. This study analyzes the risk factors that influence the incidence of preeclampsia in mothers giving birth at Haji Adam Malik Hospital in 2020-2022. Method. This research is an analytical observational study with a case control design. The research was conducted at the Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan, in July-August 2023. The research samples were women giving birth with preeclampsia and without preeclampsia obtained using the total sampling method. Data analysis used the chi-square test and odds ratio test. Results. There was no relationship between maternal age <20 years (p=0.386 OR 0.315 95% CI 0.033-2.959), gravida status (p= 0.671 OR 1.198 95% CI 0.521-2.755), previous pregnancy history of preeclampsia (p= 0.159 OR 3.917 95 % CI 0.771-19.903), diabetes mellitus (p= 0.715 OR 1.742 95% CI 0.393-7.730) on preeclampsia, but there is a relationship between maternal age >35 years (p=0.014 OR 3.565 95% CI 1.256-10.119) on preeclampsia Conclusion. Maternal age <20 years, gravida status, previous pregnancy history of preeclampsia, and diabetes mellitus were not associated with preeclampsia, but maternal age >35 years was associated with preeclampsia
