dc.description.abstract | Digester is a machine in a palm oil mill where the machine functions to pulverize palm fruit using a digester knife. This study aims to (1) analyze the failure of problems that occur in digester knives, (2) test the mechanical properties of digester knives which include hardness tests, impact tests and microstn1cture tests, (3) analyze wear resistance to digester knives before and after heat treatment based on specific wear, (4) provide maintenance solutions to minimize digester knife damage.
The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with the type of experimental study. The method of failure analysis on this digester knife is by testing mechanical properties, heat treatment processes, calculating wear rates and providing maintenance solutions.
The results of this study are (J) the type of failure that often occurs in knives, namely frequent wear and fracture, (2) after heat treatment 85<f'C then the hardness value increases to 178.66 BHN, the impact value also increases to 31.9719 Joule and the phase that occurs in this material is the ferrite and pearlite phases which show this steel is classified as ductile, (3) the average value of specific wear after heat treatment is 0.01503 mm1/Nm which means that the material after heat treatment is more wearresistant than raw material, (4) the hardening process can be used as a maintenance solution to increase wear resistance and knife life | en_US |
