dc.description.abstractBackground. As a tropical country, Indonesia has enormous biological potential, including in alternative medicine. Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) is one of the potential commodities commonly utilized by the community. Not only the fruit, it turns out that rambutan peel has antibacterial content that has the potential to be a good renewal therapy. Objective. This research aims to determine whether there is an effect of ethanol extract from rambutan peel in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus bacteria. Method. This research was carried out from July to September 2023 which took place in three different laboratories, which are the phytochemical laboratory, natural materials organic chemistry laboratory, and the microbiology laboratory. The method used is true experimental conducted in vitro with posttest only control group design and using Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 colonies taken randomly as research samples. Result. The results showed that all test concentrations were sensitive to S. aureus bacteria. The largest inhibition zone of rambutan peel ethanol extract was obtained at 80% concentration with 85% close to the control inhibition zone results (22,425 mm) and followed by 70%, 60%, 50%, 25%, and 12.5% concentrations. The zone of inhibition formed at each concentration is a result of the active compounds of rambutan peel including flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Conclusion. Through this study, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of rambutan peel has the potential to inhibit the growth of S. aureus bacteria due to the bioactive compounds contained in it.en_US
