Abstract

Background. The wide use of the internet has a positive impact on society but also has its own negative risks, one of which is that it can lead to addiction, thus impacting the mental health of users. Aim. To determine the degree of correlation between internet addiction and anxiety in FK USU pre-clinical students. Methods. This research was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design regarding the correlation between internet addiction and anxiety in FK USU pre-clinical students in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes and obtained a sample size of 261 people who have all met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out offline by filling out a questionnaire containing the IAT questionnaire as a tool for measuring internet addiction and HADS-A as a tool for measuring anxiety using paper and google forms. Results. Using the Rank Spearman test, the results of this research showed that there is a significant relationship between internet addiction and anxiety, with a value of p=<0.001 (p<0.05) and the degree of the correlation is weak with a value of r=0.303. Conclusion. There is a significant relationship between internet addiction and anxiety, with the strength of the correlation being weak, therefore readers should be more aware of the negative impacts of excessive internet use.
