Tingkat Pengetahuan Siswa/I terhadap Dampak Penggunaan Cotton Bud pada Telinga di SMA Swasta Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan Tahun 2023
Abstract
Background. Many people have habit of independently cleaning their ears. Cotton buds, used for ear cleaning in daily life. Use of cotton buds to clean earwax, water, reduce itching sensation, etc. Bacteria on cotton bud can enter the ear, there is possibility that earwax is pushed deeper, and chance that cotton fibers from the cotton bud may left inside ear. An initial survey at Sultan Iskandar Muda Private High School revealed that 7 of 10 students were unaware that the use of cotton buds could have adverse effects on ears. Purpose. Determine the level of knowledge among students regarding the impact of using cotton buds on the ears at Sultan Iskandar Muda Private High School. Method. This research is a descriptive study, cross-sectional design. Sampling technique used consecutive sampling with sample size, 224 people. Data collection utilized a questionnaire as a tool. Results. 224 respondents, the majority, 166 people (74.1%), use cotton buds, with majority reason as cleaning earwax, 122 people (73.5%), and 58 people who do not use cotton buds, with majority reason as causing more earwax to go inside the ear, 34 people (58.6%). Majority respondents have good knowledge about ear function, 165 people (73.7%), sufficient knowledge about ear hygiene, 130 people (58%), good knowledge about ear cleaning, 109 people (48.9%), and good knowledge about the impact of using cotton buds, 137 people (61.2%). Conclusion. The level of knowledge among Sultan Iskandar Muda Private High School students is considered good with percentage of 56.8%.
