Gambaran Kecanduan Internet pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Sumatera Utara

Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of internet addiction in students of the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra. The research method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. There were 349 students who were the subjects of this study. Subjects were determined using non-probability sampling and purposive sampling techniques. The measurement tool used is the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) scale by Young (1998) and the internet addiction impact scale compiled by researchers based on the six negative impacts of internet addiction namely nomophobia, fear of missing out (FoMO), social interaction disorder, phubbing, procrastination and health problems. Descriptive analysis yielded a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. The results of this study indicated that there were 196 (56%) students who experienced mild Internet addiction, 140 (40%) experienced moderate addiction and 140 (40%) experienced severe addiction. 13 (4%) students. The negative impact that has the highest frequency on the mild level of internet addiction is fear of missing out (FoMO), namely 102 (52%) students, then the negative impact that has the highest frequency on the moderate level of internet addiction is nomophobia, namely 76 (54%) and the negative impact those with the highest frequency of severe internet addiction were fear of missing out (FoMO), phubbing and health problems as many as 8 (62%) students.
