| dc.description.abstract | Internet addiction is an individual's inability to control their internet use, resulting in various negative impacts. This research aims to obtain an overview of internet addiction and its negative impacts on students at the University of North Sumatra who are working on tsarheir thesis at each level of internet addiction. The scale used is the Internet Addiction Test, to identify subjects who are addicted to the internet and classify them into 3 levels of internet addiction, namely mild, moderate and severe. The second scale is a self-report of the negative impact of internet addiction which is constructed based on 6 negative impacts of internet addiction, namely nomophobia, fear of missing out (FoMO), impaired social interaction, phubbing, procrastination, and health problems. The research sample consisted of 349 students, with the sampling method using non-probability methods and purposive sampling techniques. The research results showed that 29.23% of students experienced mild level of internet addiction, 65.04% moderate level, and 5.73% severe level. In the mild and moderate level of internet addiction category, students tend to experience phubbing. Meanwhile, at the severe level, students tend to experience nomophobia. | en_US |
