Internet addiction is excessive and uncontrollable use of the internet, causing various negative impacts on a person, including the academic achievement of high school students. This research was conducted to obtain an overview of the categories of internet addiction and the tendency of the negative effects of internet addiction on students at SMA N 1 Kamang Magek, West Sumatra. The sample for this research was 148 people who were determined based on the non-probability sampling method with total sampling technique. This study uses two measuring tools, namely the internet addiction test (IAT) constructed by Widyanto & McMurran (2004) and self-report of the negative impacts of internet addiction constructed by researchers based on the six negative impacts of internet addiction namely nomophobia, fomo, social interaction disorder, phubbing, procrastination and health problems. The results of this study showed that there were 64% (94 students) mild internet addiction, 33% (49 students) moderate internet addiction and 3% (5 students) severe internet addiction. The negative impact of mild internet addiction is nomophobia 53% (50 students), moderate internet addiction is procrastination 53% (26 students) and severe internet addiction is procrastination 60% (3 students).
