Abstract

Thesis is a scientific essay that must be written by students to obtain a bachelor's degree. However, students often feel stressed and need social support. Social support refers to the support provided by the environment around the individual in the form of providing a sense of comfort, care to support each other. This study aims to determine the role of social support on stress in the academic field in undergraduate students of the USU Faculty of Psychology who are working on a thesis. The sample of this study was 100 students who were collected by accidental sampling technique using the stress scale measuring instrument and social support from Sarafino (2011). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate a negative role (-0.246) with significance p (0.013) <0.05. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a negative role of social support on stress in the academic field in students who are working on their thesis. The R-Square score in this study is 0.61, which means that social support plays a 61% role in stress in the academic field.
