Gambaran Kecanduan Internet pada Siswa di SMA Negeri 5 Medan

Abstract

Internet addiction is the use of the internet that exceeds reasonable limits, causing negative impacts on a person. This study was conducted to obtain an overview of the internet addiction category and map the tendency of the negative impact of internet addiction that appears in students at SMA Negeri 5 Medan. There were 349 students who became the subjects of this study. The subjects were determined using non-probability sampling with purposive sampling technique. In this study, two measuring instruments were used, namely the internet addiction test and self-report of the negative impacts of internet addiction which was based on six negative impacts of internet addiction, namely nomophobia, fear of missing out, social interaction disorders, phubbing, procrastination, and health problems. The results show that 205 students experienced mild internet addiction, 134 students experienced moderate internet addiction, and 10 students experienced severe internet addiction. The negative impact of internet addiction that tends to appear in the mild internet addiction category are social interaction disorder and procrastination with a percentage of 54% (111 students). The negative impact of internet addiction that tends to appear in the moderate internet addiction category is phubbing with a percentage of 53% (72 students). The negative impact of internet addiction that tends to appear in the category of severe internet addiction are social interaction disorder, phubbing, and procrastination with a percentage of 80% (8 students).
