Research has been carried out on the effect of adding silica sol as a filler in making mullite fiber (SiO2.Al2O3). Mullite Fiber is a combination of two oxide compounds. Mullite Fiber was developed in the process of making refactory furnaces. The process of making mullite fiber is carried out using the cast molding method. Mullite fiber is ovened at T = 110℃ at t = 3 hours and then sintered at T = 1200℃, 1300℃, 1400℃, 1500℃. Analysis was carried out for density, percentage of pores, resilience, and the phase and structure of mullite fiber were characterized by XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). The optimum density is 0.905 gr/cm3, optimum porosity is 7.810%, and optimum compressive strength is 7.382 MPa. The XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) results show that the same phase appears in the mullite fiber type, namely mullite, sillimanite has an orthorhombic structure, and cristobalite has a tetragonal structure.en_US
