Abstract
The incidence of sexual cases in the pre-marriage of teenagers causes early marriages
due to pregnancy. Having love affairs immorally, exposing to pornography and action
porn, venereal diseases have been caused by their lack of sexual education and reproductive
health. The objective of the research was to describe sex education learning and reproductive
health in the students of SMA (Senior High School) of Yayasan Perguruan Mayjend
Sutoyo, Jalan Sei Sikambing, Medan. With the qualitative research, the data were
gathered by conducting in-depth interview with the students, Biological teacher, the Principal,
students' parents, and other relevant stakeholders. The result of the research showed
that sex education and reproductive health at the school was not optimal. One of the causes was
that the Biological teacher taught the Anatomy of Human Body and Body Organs which had
reproductive and sexual functions, orally and the abstract of sexual aspects without using blunt
language but with considering the applicable contexts and norms without violating the rules.
Actually, he should explain the dynamics and the effect of free sex and reproductive
health in reproductive health education, and focused on the students understanding of
sexual behavior and reproductive health which was in accordance with teenagers ' ages. Besides
that, the students' response to teaching materials should be their preparation for solving
their sexual and reproductive health problems.
In increasing their understanding of sexual behavior and reproductive health, teenagers
often refer to various references independently such as initial information from their
parents, genital description from their schools, and applicative knowledge from
internet and cell-phones. Sex education an reproductive health are not managed
properly and they tend to be exclusive for students since oriental cultural value about
taboo and shamefulness in talking about sex and reproductive health, especially about male and
female genitals.
