| dc.description.abstract | Wellness tourism in North Sumatra Province has a lot of potential that can
be managed for the development of fitness tourism, but there are still
problems that hinder the development of fitness tourism such as
incompetent human resources, unfunded facilities and infrastructure,
unclear funding, and unclear policies. Yes, apart from that, it was found
that there are still many policy makers who are still unaware of fitness
tourism in North Sumatra. The aim of this research is as a forum for
information and strategies for developing fitness tourism based on the
perceptions of policy makers regarding fitness tourism in North Sumatra
Province. This type of research is qualitative research, using in-depth
interview research methods. The selection of informants was carried out
by approaching several policy makers at the North Sumatra Provincial
Health Service. Based on the research results, it is known that there are
still many officers who do not understand what fitness tourism is,
deficiencies are still found such as the absence of health service places
such as tourist health centers or health posts on guard, there are no
special regulations governing the management of fitness tourism, the
Health Service does not provide budget for fitness tourism spots due to a
lack of policies governing the distribution of budgets to the fitness tourism
sector. Therefore, until now, the largest source of funds received by
fitness tourism providers only comes from funds provided by visitors. It is
hoped that the North Sumatra Provincial Health Service will be able to reevaluate
the potential of each fitness tourism spot in North Sumatra
Province and overcome the shortcomings of fitness tourism spots, in
order to reduce visitor complaints and improve the quality of fitness
