dc.description.abstract | Physical fitness is a holistic component of overall fitness and an effort to improve
the human body's functions. An individual's physical health increases alongside
their physical fitness, enhancing physical capabilities and productivity,
influencing achievements in sports. Therefore, it's crucial to assess and measure
to ensure the relationship between performance in taekwondo championships and
one's physical fitness level. This study aims to examine the connection between
knowledge, smoking habits, with physical fitness among athletes in the
Taekwondo Student Activity Unit at HKBP Nommensen University Medan in
2023. The research is analytical with a cross-sectional study design, involving a
population and sample of 40 athletes, selected through total sampling. The
measurement tool used is a questionnaire. Univariate analysis reveals that
athletes have subpar knowledge (57.5%), heavy smoking habits (82.5%), and poor
physical fitness (67.5%). Bivariate analysis using chi-square test with a 95%
confidence level indicates a relationship between knowledge (p=0.049), smoking
habits (p=0.028), and physical fitness among athletes at the Taekwondo Student
Activity Unit at HKBP Nommensen University Medan. It is recommended for
athletes to quit smoking as a preventive measure against a decline in physical
fitness if they aim to excel in their athletic pursuits. | en_US |
