dc.description.abstractThe Medan City Government plans to build an interchange at the signalized intersection of Road Ir. H. Juanda and Road Brigjend Katamso. The performance of an intersection is the main factor in determining the most appropriate handling to optimize the function of the intersection and provide an overview of the level of service, so an evaluation of the signalized intersection performance at the intersection of Road Ir. H. Juanda and Road Brigjend Katamso is needed to assess the level of need for the construction of an interchange at the intersection. The data used in this study were traffic data and geometry data of the intersection. The traffic data used is peak one-hour traffic data obtained from traffic surveys for two days, namely one day of weekday represented by Monday and one day of weekend represented by Saturday. The analysis conducted in this study is the evaluation of signalized intersection performance and optimization of traffic signal controller in signalized intersection according to the Pedoman Kapasitas Jalan Indonesia 2023 (PKJI 2023), the assessment of the level of service of intersection according to the Highway Capacity Manual 2010, and the analysis of the selection of intersection types carried out with two references, namely the reference diagram of life cycle cost in PKJI 2023 with the analysis of life cycle costs according to the Federal Highway Administration 2002 and reference diagram of traffic flow combinations on the major arm and minor arm according to the Institute of Highways and Transportation Research 1997. The evaluation results of the signalized intersection performance show that the intersection is already at the service level of service level F. Optimization of traffic signal controller in signalized intersection shows that the existing traffic signal controller is in optimal condition and the intersection is indeed in a condition of oversaturated and requires handling since the first year. Based on the selection of intersection types with a life cycle cost approach and a combination of traffic flows, existing signalized intersection already require changing the type of intersection from signalized intersection to interchangeen_US
