dc.description.abstract | The Medan city government is planning to construct an interchange at the intersection with high traffic congestion, namely the intersection of Road Ir. H. Juanda – Road Brigjend. Katamso, Medan Maimun sub-district. The construction of interchange in the form of an underpass at the intersection of Road Ir. H. Juanda – Road Brigjend. Katamso, Medan Maimun sub-district, will have several impacts on the existing traffic conditions. One of the effects caused by the construction of this underpass is the loss of right-turn access at each leg of the Brigjend Katamso - Ir. H. Juanda intersection. There is a u-turn point on the Brigjend Katamso road segment that can be used to accommodate right-turn movements from the North and East legs of the Road Ir. H. Juanda – Road Brigjend. Katamso intersection. Therefore, a study is needed, in the form of a simulation of the impact of the underpass construction on the u-turn point.
In analyzing the performance of the u-turn in this study, two methods were employed: queue theory according to Wohl and Martin as cited in Morlok E.W (1991), and simulation method using PTV VISSIM student version software. The analysis results from both methods indicate that the operation of the underpass has an impact on the performance of the u-turn located on Brigjend Katamso road segment.
Based on the queue theory method, the change in the performance of the u-turn after the operation of the underpass is as follows: the queue length increased from 0.27 meters to 44.28 meters, the delay increased from 2.15 seconds to 77.14 seconds, and the travel time increased from 10.74 seconds to 85.73 seconds. Meanwhile, based on the simulation modeling results using VISSIM software, the performance of the u-turn after the operation of the underpass is as follows: the queue length increased from 1.35 meters to 67.68 meters, the maximum queue length increased from 24.81 meters to 145.38 meters, the delay increased from 2.94 veh/sec to 7.88 veh/sec, and the travel time increased from 11.87 veh/sec to 16.51 veh/sec | en_US |
