    Abstract
Andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium) contains active secondary metabolite compounds like alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins and steroids/triterpenoids. The plants contain compounds from the steroid, alkaloid and terpenoid groups have the potential to act as fertility regulators. The liver is an organ with a high capacity to bind chemical compounds and function as a detoxifier of materials or chemicals that are harmful to the body. It is hoped that giving andaliman will not have a toxic effect on the liver. This study aimed to determine the effect of methanol extract of andaliman fruit on the morphology and histology of the liver in mice. This research used the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) method with 5 treatments, each consisting of 3 replications. Treatment consisted of negative control (normal), positive control (hormonal contraception), doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW and 400 mg/kgBW. Liver histology was made using the Hematoxyllin and Eosin (HE) paraffin staining method. The results of this study showed that the methanol extract of andaliman fruit had no effect on liver morphology which includes color, surface, and texture. The results of statistical analysis (ANOVA) showed no significant differences (p>0.05) in liver weight and volume, while microscopic damage showed significant differences (p<0.05), characterized by liver hepatocytes damage in the form of parenchymatous degeneration, hydropic degeneration, and necrosis.
