An orphanage is a place to care for and provide basic needs for abandoned, underprivileged, and orphans. However, there are still many orphanages that care for their foster children in appropriate ways, such as providing adequate food and living in dirty and unhealthy environments. This needs to be paid attention to because it can cause nutritional problems in children. This research aims to determine the relationship between nutritional adequacy and sanitation hygiene and children's nutritional status at the Mamiyai Al Ittihadiyah Orphanage in Medan. This type of research is analytical and observational with a cross-sectional research design. The number of samples in this study was all 60 children at the Mamiyai Al Ittihadiyah Orphanage in Medan. Nutritional adequacy data is measured using a 24-hour food recall form; sanitation hygiene data is calculated using a personal hygiene and environmental sanitation questionnaire. Meanwhile, nutritional status data is estimated based on anthropometric examination. Data analysis was carried out using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed that most children (48.3%) had severe energy deficits. Meanwhile, if seen from aspect of sanitation hygiene the majority of children (76.7%) had good sanitation hygiene. There is a relationship between energy adequacy (p-value 0.036) and carbohydrate adequacy (p-value 0.026) with the nutritional status of children at the Mamiyai Al Ittihadiyah Orphanage in Medan. There is no relationship between protein adequacy (p-value 0.729), fat adequacy (p-value 0.186), and sanitation hygiene (p-value 0.877) and the nutritional status of children at the Mamiyai Al Ittihadiyah Orphanage in Medan. It is hoped that the Mamiyai Al Ittihadiyah Medan Orphanage will regularly teach children the importance of a balanced diet.en_US
