dc.description.abstract | Radiotherapy bolus has been successfully made using melt-intercalation method with
silicone rubber and epoxy resin. Some composition variations used are silicone
rubber: epoxy resin: catalyst (80:16:4)%v/v, (80:17:3)%v/v, (80:18:2)%v/v and
(80:19:1)%v/v. The process of making samples is done by mixing silicone Rubber,
epoxy resin, and catalyst with a thickness of 1.5 cm. The characterization results
show that the variation (80:16:4)% produces a density value of 1.105 gr/cm3,
porosity of 0.405% and water absorption of 0.367%. Mechanical properties with
optimum tensile strength 0.554 MPa, optimum elongation at break 151.807% and
optimum elastic modulus 0.525 MPa. Radiotherapy bolus performance was measured
by Relative Electron Density (RED) value of 1.209 x 1023 electrons/cm3. Surface
absorbed dose produced optimum value for 8 MeV energy of 107.560% and 10 MeV
of 112.695%. SEM analysis of radiotherapy bolus has clumps in some parts, due to
the presence of air bubbles in the bolus. The spectrum results showed no change in
wave numbers from the FTIR spectrum of Silicone Rubber, epoxy resin with C-H, CO,
Si-O-Si, and S-CH fungai groups. | en_US |
