| dc.description.abstract | The objective of the research was to analyze Family Communication Pattern in Preventing Sexual harassment in children at Binjai, North Sumatera Province. The research used the theory of interpersonal communication, family communication, and sexual harassment in children which are relevant to this research. The research also used descriptive qualitative method. The informants were six families with the criteria of parents/guardians who had daughters/sons and who lived at Kelurahan Damai, Binjai Utara Sub-district, Binjai, never did sexual harassment or the victims of sexual harassment, and lived with their children under the same roofs. The result of the research showed that in preventing sexual harassment in children, the respondents did balance split communication pattern. The form of the message in preventing sexual harassment in children was in the form of informative and persuasive messages. The factor which makes family communication effective in preventing sexual harassment in children at Kelurahan Damai was environment. The local government was active in educating the people about preventing sexual harassment in children and the people were highly aware of it by conducting people's self-help movement such as the movement of Child Quran Recital in Peace. Al-Ma'un Orphan Care Community, and the establishment of accompanying team in female cases. The main obstacle of family communication in preventing sexual harassmeni in children was psychological noise of psychological handicap. They tended to feel that is taboo to talk about anything related to sexuality between a father and his daughters or between a mother and her sons. | en_US |
