dc.description.abstractThis research was carried out by using Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk. leaves or haramunting from Rantauprapat, North Sumatra, Indonesia which was processed into nanoherbal and then extracted with methanol (Meth-Ext) to test its potential in animal model of neuroinflammation. Analysis of the Meth-Ext compound done by using GC-MS and antioxidant testing of Meth-Ext by using DPPH method before it was being given to animal test, which was male albino Rattus norvegicus L. Sprague-Daulay rats induced by LPS via ICV. In this research, animal behavior was tested with several behavioral tests, which were anxiety in the open field, the depression-associated memory loss in pattern separation and depression in social interactions. After the behavioral tests were carried out, the brain and hippocampus organs were taken from the rats. Biochemical analysis was performed on the brain to test oxidative stress levels, such as MDA, GSH, SOD and CAT. Neurochemical analysis was performed on the hippocampus to examine the levels of biogenic amine neurotransmitters of DA and 5-HT. The results showed that administration of methanol extract to the Rhodomyrtus tomentosa nanoherbal leaves was able to reduce anxiety disorders, depression and prevent depression-associated memory loss as shown in behavioral tests. In addition, Meth-Ext is able to reduce oxidative stress by decreasing MDA levels, increasing GSH levels, decreasing SOD and CAT enzyme activity and stabilize biogenic amine levels by decreasing DA and 5-HT turnover. It was concluded that administration of methanol extract of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa nanoherbal leaves has neuroprotective potential to reduce neurological disorders related to neuroinflammation.en_US
