Peran Hukum Adat Fondrakö dalam Perkawinan Adat Niasöri Laraga di Kota Medan

Abstract

Customary law is important in every aspect of Nias people's life, customary law is called Fondrakò. Each region on Nias Island has different contents and provisions for Fondrakò according to the area in which it is applied. This research aims to examine the role of Fondrakò traditional law in the Nias Òri Laraga traditional marriage as well as the shifts that occur in Nias traditional marriages in Medan City. This research method uses a qualitative app roach with data originating from in depth interviews, observation, literature study, and documentation. The results of this research show that the Fondrakò traditional law plays a major role in the implementation of the Nias Òri Laraga traditional marriage , especially for decision making. The role of Fondrakò traditional law in Nias traditional marriages in Medan City has experienced a shift in marriage procedures and also their meaning. This shift was caused by the influx of religion and also due to modern ization.
