Analisis Kualitas Informasi Kota Medan oleh Jurnalisme Warga pada Media Sosial Instagram @Medantalk

Abstract

This research is entitled " Analysis of the Quality of Medan City Information by Citizen Journalism on Instagram Social Media @medantalk". The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of information about the city of Medan by citizen journalism on the social media Instagram @medantalk and to determine the construction of citizen journalism on the social media Instagram @medantalk. Theories and concepts in this study are new media theory, journalism, citizen journalism, social media, instagram, information, and information quality. This study uses a qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The number of informants in this study was six people after collecting saturated research data, three of the informants were citizen journalists who had sent information to @medantalk, a USU FISIP Communication Science lecturer, USU public relations officer and former ANTARA media journalist from 2008-2021, and another one was an admin of @medantalk. Observations were carried out on 10 posts taken from 22 June – 11 July 2023 with observation times determined randomly without any pretensions. The results of observational research show that 6 of the 10 posts studied on Instagram @medantalk meet McLeod's four dimensions of information quality, there were accuracy, relevancy, timeless, and completeness. The results of the interview also explained that citizen journalists chose @medantalk as a reference for information on the city of Medan because of the quality of the information From this study it can be concluded that quality of information shared by citizen journalists on the @medantalk Instagram account is of good quality because it meets McLeod's four dimensions of information quality. The construction of citizen journalists in the city of Medan on the Instagram account @medantalk in producing news or information has been carried out well even though they do not have an understanding of citizen journalism, but in practice, unconsciously they have carried out activities like citizen journalists.
