This thesis delves into the role of the opposition in Medan during the leadership of Bobby Nasution. The People's Representative Council (DPR), functioning as a representative body representing political elements, possesses full authority as a legislative institution. The opposition's role within the People's Representative Council (DPR) is fundamentally significant as a strategy to intensify control and uphold the principles of checks and balances against the governing authority. This research aims to identify and analyze how the opposition operates in the local political context, specifically concerning policies and programs introduced by Mayor Bobby Nasution. The research methodology used is qualitative research where the researcher serves as the instrument, and data collection and analysis techniques are qualitative, emphasizing meaning.
The research findings indicate that the opposition in Medan faces several challenges in fulfilling its role. Despite criticism of some policies, limitations in resources and local political dynamics hinder the optimization of the opposition's functions. Nevertheless, the opposition's role remains relevant in maintaining balance and providing a voice.
