dc.description.abstractThe preparation of isopropyl myristate (IPM) has been performed through an esterification reaction of myristic acid and isopropyl alcohol using the lipase enzyme as a catalyst under microwave irradiation. The parameters in this study were reaction time with variations of 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes and microwave power with variations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. The conversion of IPM was determined using titration alkalimetry. The characterization of IPM was analyzed using FT-IR based on the changes of its functional groups. The maximum IPM conversion of 94.582 ± 0,25% was obtained for the reaction time parameter achieved at 1 minute reaction time, 20% microwave power, molar ratio of 1:2, and 20% catalyst weight. As for the Microwave Power parameters, the maximum IPM conversion of 94.243 ± 1,34% achieved at 20% Microwave Power conditions, 1 minute reaction time, molar ratio of 1:2 and 5% catalyst weight. The formation of IPM as a result of the synthesis was marked by the loss of the hydroxyl group (O-H) in the region of wave numbers 3000 – 4000 and the presence of a stretching vibration –C-O-C-ester in wave numbers 1300-1000 cm-1.en_US
