    Abstract
Effective communication in professional nursing practice is the main element for nurses in carrying out nursing care in achieving optimal results. One of the nursing activities that require effective communication is during handover. Handover is a way of delivering something (report) related to the state of the client, where there is a transfer or transfer of responsibility about the patient from one nurse to another. Handover implementation can be done optimally by using one of the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication methods. This study aims to determine the implementation method of SBAR communication in handover activities in the Mahoni Meranti Hospitalization Room, USU Hospital. The media used is in the form of a handover format with the SBAR communication method. The results showed that the implementation of handover with the SBAR communication method was not optimal, this was evidenced by the observation that the head of the room did not participate in handover activities at all times, nurses were also less than optimal in carrying out handover with SBAR communication because they felt it took a long time, and nurses sometimes misinformed during handover activities due to incomplete documentation, and nurses also said they had never received or attended training on handover with the SBAR communication method. It is expected that nurses can continue to practice, increase knowledge and motivate each other in order to improve handover management with the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication method optimally.
