    Abstract
This research has beendone by adding Calcium Oxide (CaO) as an azeotropic point breaker of ethanol-water. The Calcium Oxide used was analyzed with SEM-EDX which showed that the constituent atoms of Calcium Oxide consisted of C by 37.59%, Ca by 35.90% and Oby 19.34%. where Calcium Oxide will bind water then h.old it and separcttewater with ethanol during the distillation process and reduce the boiling point of bioethanol from 78 ° C to 72 ° C. Bioethanol that has been purified with Calcium Oxide is further analyzed with FT-IR, GCMS and RON test. From th.e results of FT-IR analysis, bioethanol before the addition of CaO has absorption peak characteristics at wavenumber 3317.33; 2907.32; 2884.95; 1416.38; 1379.11; and 1043.65 cm- 1 which respectivel y indicate the presence of functional groups -OH (V s1retching),C-H(V s1retchi11g asy11 ) (C H3), C-H(Vstretching sy111) ( CH3), C-H sp3 (V bending), C-H sp3 (Vbe11ding), and C-O(V s,retching). After the addition of Calcium Oxide there was a decrease in the absorption intensity of the OH group at wavenumber 3317.33 cm- 1 This is also supported by the decrease in the octane number of bioethanol from 120 to 109 because the air and water content in bioethanol becom.es much reduced. Bioethanol after the addition of CaO also has a higher solubility with pertalite than the initial bioethanol, this is due to its smaller density difference compared to the initial bioethanol, after the addition of Calcium Oxide (Ca O ) bioethanol has a purity of 100% after going through azeotrope distillation.
