    Abstract
The Padang River Estuary is a location that is utilized by the community in various activities, the main activities are as a place of shipping and harbor for fishing boats and as a place for disposal of household waste. Therefore, it is necessary to study the water quality according to its designation. This study aims to determine the value of river water quality based on physical and chemical parameters and the status of water quality in the Padang River Estuary, Bandar Khalipah District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra Province. This research was conducted in April-June 2023 with sampling at 5 stations. Measurement and testing of water quality parameters include physical parameters (temperature, brightness, current speed, depth, turbidity, TSS) and chemical parameters (pH, salinity, DO, BOD, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, oil and fat). Determination of water quality status using the Pollution Index method and MMWQI (Malaysian Marine Water Quality Index). The results of this study indicate that the Padang River estuary is still within normal limits except for the parameters DO, nitrate, phosphate, and oil and grease. The water quality status of the Padang River estuary based on the Pollution Index method is in the moderately polluted category and based on the MMWQI method in the poor category.
