dc.description.abstractThe issue of global warming due to the burning of coal fuel, especially in Steam Power Plants (PLTU), has become a global concern. A breakthrough to replace coal fuel is with biomass cofiring technology. The use of biomass cofiring technology must be investigated to ensure that the performance of the PLTU equipment is maintained. Research on cofiring palm shell biomass has been carried out using the Aspen Plus software simulation. The simulation was carried out by varying the composition of the mixture of coal and palm shell biomass successively 100%-0%, 75%-25%, 50%-50%, 25%-75% and 0%-100%. The simulation results show that the temperature of the flue gas mixture of coal and palm shell biomass increases if the composition of the mixture of palm shell biomass is greater. A mixture of coal and palm shell biomass 100% -0% produces a flue gas temperature of 1217.65 0C, a mixture of coal-palm shell biomass 75% -25% produces a flue gas temperature of 1277.25 0C, a mixture of coal and palm shell biomass 50% - 50% produces a flue gas temperature of 1336.53 0C, a mixture of coal-palm shell biomass 25%-75% produces a flue gas temperature of 1395.51 0C, and a mixture of coal-palm shell biomass 0%-100% produces a flue gas temperature of 1454.18 0C. The power plant equipment that is affected by variations in the mixture of coal fuel and palm shell biomass is the economizer, Low Superheater, Platen Superheater, HP Superheater, Air Preheater Primary Air, Air Preheater Secondary Air and Boiler components. The simulation results show that the components of the PLTU equipment that experience the highest exergy destructions are the Boiler component of 133591.12 kW followed by the condenser of 42818.41 ken_US
