    Abstract
Background: Children with epilepsy require appropriate management, because uncontrolled epilepsy will increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. Antiepileptic drugs that are consumed in the long term also cause side effects, one of which is hyponatremia that can cause severe conditions for children with epilepsy. This study to determine the correlation between anti epileptic drugs and the outcome of hyponatremia in childen with epilepsy at the H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan Metode Analytical analyses with crossectional study in children with epilepsy aged 1 years up to 18 years at the H. Adam Malik Medan hospital from Juni – September 2022. The patient had experienced other etiology of hyponatremia and gotten other treatment which had side effect hyponatremia were exclude. Assessment of these variables with Chi Square test and alternative Fisher’s Exact test. These analyses used prevalence ratio (RP) and p value (p<0,05) with convidence interval (CI) 95%. Results: A total of 120 children with epilepsy were analyzed, and approximately 29 children had hyponatremia. Chi square test analysis showed that were no significant correlation between use of antiepileptic drugs and hyponatremia (p=0,861), duration treatment and hyponatremia (p= 0,672), antiepileptic dose and hyponatremia (p>0,05). Fisher’s exact test analysis showed that was no significan correlation between types of antiepileptic drugs and hyponatremia (p>0,05). Conclusion: There was no significant correlation use of antiepileptic drugs, duration treatment, types of antiepileptic drugs, antiepileptic dose and hyponatremia in children with epilepsy.
