Analisis Faktor – Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Keseimbangan Statis pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sumatera Utara
Abstract
Background. Static balance is the ability to maintain postural stability and centre of gravity orientation to static, immobile base of support. For young adults, static balance is one of the factors optimizing motoric performance in various physical activities in daily lives, including in sports and exercises. Objective. To analyze factors associated with static balance in college students of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, such as gender, age, weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist hip ratio, support base area and lower extremity muscle strength. Methods. This is an analytic observational study implementing the cross-sectional design. Samples are undergraduate students of medical education study program in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, gathered by consecutive-sampling method. Gender and age data were gathered with questionnaire, and other variables were gathered by measurements. Static balance was measured with BESS (Balance Error Scoring System) balance test. Results. Measurement of static balance showed most error occurred in single leg stance in foam surface subtest (The median is 7 with a maximum of 10). And the mean of total BESS score is 13.57 with the maximal score found is 27. Bivariate analysis showed significant correlations between age, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and hip circumference with static balance. Whereas, correlations between gender, height, waist hip ratio, support base area, and lower extremity muscle strength with static balance were statistically not significant. Conclusion. Age, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and hip circumference are associated significantly with static balance.
