Background: Endometriosis is characterized by ectopic implantation of the functional tissue lining the uterus (endometrial glands and stroma) outside the uterine cavity. Polymorphisms in CYP17A1 cause significant increases in 17 α-hydroxylase expression and are associated with various reproductive disorders, including endometriosis. Until now, research regarding CYP17A1 polymorphisms in endometriosis is still contradictory.
Objectives : To evaluate the relationship between CYP17A1 Gene Polymorphism in endometriosis
Methods: This research is an observasional analytical study with a case-control approach with a total of 50 respondents. The research was conducted from August to December 2023. Sample selection used a consecutive sampling technique. Age, parity, and physical examination data were collected in the form of blood pressure measurements and anthropometric examination obtained from medical record data, while gene polymorphism data was collected using the polymerase chain reaction method. The relationship between characteristics and polymorphisms was tested using Anova (normal distribution) or the alternative test with Kruskal Wallis.
Results: The majority of the research samples were over 30 years old with 23 samples being cases (92%) and 39 samples being controls (78%). The majority of parities in the case group were nulliparous (60%), while those in the control group were multiparous (68%). There was no significant relationship between CYP17A1 gene polymorphisms in endometriosis cases (p>0.05). There was no significant relationship between age, BMI, and infertility with CYP17A1 polymorphisms in cases of endometriosis. (p>0.05) There was a significant relationship between the severity of endometriosis and CYP17A1 polymorphisms (p<0.05).
Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between CYP17A1 gene polymorphisms in endometriosis cases. There is a significant relationship between the severity of endometriosis and CYP17A1 gene polymorphisms.
