Hubungan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dengan Derajat Hipertensi pada Penderita Hipertensi di RS Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Medan

Abstract

Background. Hypertension is a global health problem that attacks 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years. Hypertension is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic ≥ 90 mmHg. Calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI) is a method for determining nutritional status in adults. Every increased BMI will increase the risk of hypertension. An increase in the BMI value is followed by an increase in blood pressure, which increase the chance of developing hypertension as well as the degree of hypertension. Aim. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between BMI and the degree of hypertension in hypertensive sufferers at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Medan Hospital. Methods. This research uses a cross sectional design and descriptive analytical methods. The sample for this study was 84 people obtained from secondary data of medical records in Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital Medan and used simple random sampling techniques. The collected data was analyzed by a statistical program using Fisher-Exact test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results. The Results of Fisher-Exact test is p= 0.02 (<0.05), which means there is a relationship between BMI and the degree of hypertension. Conclusion. There is a relationship between BMI and the degree of hypertension in hypertensive sufferers at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital Medan.
