    Abstract
Background. Chronic tonsillitis is a condition in which the tonsils become enlarged with repeated bouts of infection. According to epidemiological data in seven provinces in 2012 on ENT diseases, the prevalence of chronic tonsillitis incidence was around 3.8%, where chronic tonsillitis occupies the second highest position after acute nasopharyngitis. Age is one of the factors causing tonsil inflammation. Tonsillitis is a problem that can occur at any age but is often found in children. Hypertrophied tonsil size can affect nutritional status and interfere with breathing. Objective. To analyze the relationship between age and tonsil size in chronic tonsillitis patients at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Teaching Hospital in 2019 – 2022. Method. The study was observational analytic with a cross sectional design based on secondary data from medical records. The sampling technique is total sampling using the Chi-square test. Result. There were 88 samples of chronic tonsillitis patients. Based on sex, the most women were found in 46 people (52.3%). Based on the age group, the most people are at the age of ≤19 years, 50 people (56.8%). Based on tonsil size, the most is found in hypertrophied tonsil size of 60 people (68.2%). From the results of the Chi-square statistical test, the relationship between age and tonsil size in chronic tonsillitis patients obtained a p value of 0.515 (P value > 0.05 ). Conclusion. There was no significant relationship between age and tonsil size in chronic tonsillitis patients at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Teaching Hospital in 2019 – 2022.
