Skin diseases are commonly found among workers in wet environments, such as wet fish traders, who are at risk of experiencing skin disorders. This is due to the continuous contact of fish traders with water, which can act as an irritant and cause skin problems. This study aims to examine the relationship between personal hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) with complaints of skin disorders among fish traders in Sembada Market, Medan City in 2023. This research is a survey with an analytical and cross-sectional approach. The population and sample size for this study were 52 fish traders, selected using total sampling technique. The measurement tool used in this study was a questionnaire. Based on univariate analysis, it was found that the personal hygiene of fish traders was categorized as poor (57.7%), incomplete use of PPE (84.6%), the majority had contact time of ≤8 hours per day (55.8%), the most commonly sold type of fish was marine fish (42.3%), and a majority of fish traders experienced complaints of skin disorders (63.5%). Bivariate analysis using chi-square test with a confidence level of 95% showed that there was a relationship between personal hygiene (p=0.001) (PR =4.107), use of PPE (p=0.040) (PR=2.818), and contact time (p=0.011) (PR=1.711) with complaints of skin disorders. However, there was no association between the type of fish sold and skin complaints (p=0.496). It is recommended for fish traders in Sembada Market to maintain personal hygiene, including hand, foot, nail, skin, and clothing hygiene, and to use PPE while working to reduce the risk of skin disorders.en_US
