| dc.description.abstract | Background. Aging can have an impact on decreased cognitive function, weakend
immune system, as well as psychiatric issues, especially among those with
comorbidities, such as HIV/AIDS, which have been reported to have an affect to
the psychological well-being of geriatric patient. Objective. To analyze the
comparison of anxiety symptoms and depression between geriatric patients with
and without HIV/AIDS comorbidities. Method. This study was conducted using
analytical observational method with cross-sectional approach carried out on
general geriatrics and geriatrics with HIV/AIDS comorbidities in Medan. Data was
obtained by filling in the GAI questionnaire to assess anxiety and the GDS-15
questionnaire to assess depression. The collected data was then analyzed using the
Chi-Square comparative test to determine the influence of these two variables.
Result and Discussion. 92 samples were obtained, with 46 general geriatric
patients and 46 geriatric patients with HIV/AIDS. In the general geriatric group,
the number of patients with anxiety consisted of 14 people (30.4%), while those
with depression consisted of 11 people (23.9%). In the geriatric HIV/AIDS group,
the number of patients with anxiety consisted of 21 people (45.7%) while geriatric
HIV with depression consisted of 16 people (34.8%). There was no significant
difference between HIV status and the level of anxiety (p=0.133), as well as
depression (p=0.252). Conclusion. This research shows that there is no notable
distinction observed in the symptoms of anxiety and depression based on an
individual's HIV status. | en_US |
