Introduction: Atopy is a predisposition to an immune response against diverse antigens and allergens leading to CD4+ Th2 differentiation and overproduction of immunoglobulin E (IgE) which causes type I hypersensitivity reactions in sufferers. The presence of atopy in an individual is associated with an increased risk of developing one or more of the atopic diseases, which refers to a genetic predisposition to developing diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. Allergies are closely related to various factors, one of which is the method of delivery. During vaginal delivery the baby comes into contact with the normal bacterial flora of the mother's vagina and intestines, which is important for the bacterial colonization of the baby. Atopy is influenced by a history of parental atopy or genetic factors. Having parents with atopy has a 50% risk of developing atopy. Aim: the aim of this research is to determine the relationship between delivery method and the incidence of atopy at Nurul Azizi Kindergarten Medan. Method: the research was an analytical cross-sectional study using a questionnaire instrument with a total sampling technique of 98 respondents. The data were obtained by filling out the modified ISAAC questionnaire. The collected data were then analyzed using the SPSS statistical software. Results: In the 98 respondents, the majority of the history of atopy was found in children born by cesarean section rather than vaginal delivery. Based on the results of the bivariate analysis test, a significant relationship was obtained between the method of delivery and the incidence of atopy (p=0.001). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant relationship between the method of delivery and the incidence of atopy in Nurul Azizi Kindergarten children in Medan.en_US
