    Studi Penurunan COD dan Amonia pada Limbah Cair Tinja Menggunakan Biofilter Anaerob Media Sarang Tawon

    Abstract
    Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi waktu tinggal terhadap efisiensi penurunan parameter COD dan amonia pada limbah cair tinja yang diambil dari Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah Cemara Medan pada unit bak penampung awal. Pada penelitian ini digunakan reaktor biofilter dengan dua sekat masing-masing sekat proses asidogenesis dan sekat proses methanogenesis dalam kondisi anaerobik. Media filter yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu media filter bentuk sarang tawon berukuran 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap yaitu seeding dan running. Tahap seeding bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan mikroorganisme hingga terbentuk lapisan biofilm pada media sarang tawon. Tahap runnig dilakukan dengan memvariasikan waktu tinggal 72 jam, 48 jam, dan 24 jam. Limbah cair dialirkan secara kontinyu dengan arah aliran upflow ke dalam reaktor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi waktu tinggal pada reaktor biofilter anaerob media sarang tawon berpengaruh terhadap penyisihan parameter COD dan amonia pada limbah cair tinja. Persentase penyisihan COD pada masing-masing waktu tinggal yaitu 87,91%, 88,24%, dan 95,75%. Sementara itu, persentase penyisihan amonia pada masing-masing waktu tinggal yaitu 34,15%, 55,84% dan 70,56%. Sehingga waktu tinggal yang paling efektif dalam penyisihan COD dan amonia yaitu waktu tinggal 24 jam.
     
    This research was done to determine the effect of hydraulic retention time variation on the efficiency of decreasing COD and ammonia parameters in black water that was brought out from Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah Cemara Medan on the preliminary reservoir unit. In this study used a submerged biofilter reactor which have two partitions of acidogenesis and methanogenesis process in anaerobic condition. Filter media that was used in this research is in honey comb shaped with 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm in sized. The research is done in two steps that were seeding and running phase. The seeding phase was aimed to seed the microorganism until the biofilm formed on the honey comb media. The running phase were conducting by operating three variations of hydraulic retention time at 72 hours, 48 hours, and 24 hours. The waste water was streamed in continuous flow and upflow direction in the reactor. The result of this research show that the operation of hydraulic retention time variation in the anaerobic submerged biofilter reactor with honey comb media in it give an effect on the removal of COD and ammonia removal. The percentages of COD removal on each hydraulic retention time variation are 87,91%, 88,24%, and 95,75%. Meanwhile, the percentages of ammonia removal on each hydraulic retention time variation are 34,15%, 55,84%, and 70,56%. Then, the most efficient of hydraulic retention time to decreasing COD and ammonia is on 24 hours.
