This study aims to determine the extent of enhancement in students' vocabulary
achievement through the Memrise application. The subject of this study was class
V-C, consisting of 27 students at SDN 066668 Medan. This study focused on the
vocabulary of things at home and parts of the body. This research was conducted
using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design and conducted two cycles to
obtain data. The data in this research are quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative
data was obtained from the results of student vocabulary tests in the form of pretest,
post-test cycle I, and post-test cycle II. Meanwhile, qualitative data was
obtained from observation checklists, interviews transcript, field notes, and
documentation. The results of this study indicate that there was an enhancement in
students' vocabulary achievement through the Memrise application. This is
evidenced by the results of the students' mean scores in each cycle. In pre-test, the
students' mean score was 42.96. Then it was enhanced to 64.07 in cycle I and
further increased to 80 in cycle II. The percentage of students who achieved a
score of 70 or above was enhanced from post-test cycle I to post-test cycle II by
44.4%. This shows that the Memrise application can significantly enhance
students' vocabulary achievement. The Memrise application can make students
more active, enthusiastic, excited, and motivated with learning activities. So, it
can be concluded that the Memrise application as a vocabulary learning media is
effective in enhancing students' vocabulary achievement.
