Background: One of the sense that plays a crucial role in determining the quality of an individual’s life is vision, with the primary sensory organ being the eyes. Rferactive errors in the eyes are common visual impairments experienced by many individuals. There are three main types of refractive errors such as Myopia (nearsightedness), Hypermetropia (farsightedness), and Astigmatism (blurred vision due to an irregular shape of the cornea or lens). Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a refractive error where parallel rays of light coming from a distant object are focused infront of the retina when the eyes are not accommodated, resulting in blurred vision of distant objects. Vision is a neurocognitive outcome that is immature at birth and is programmed by early-life visual stimuli and nutrition. Nutritional deficiencies in infants can lead to changes in visual development, and a lack of a clear retinal image can contribute to the development of myopia. Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between myopia and breastfeeding in Medan Baru Medical Eye Center. Method: This study employs an observational analytical approach with a cross-sectional design, and data is collected through interviews with the parents of the patients. Results: Among the 56 respondents, 33 cases were in the age group of 14-17 years (58.9%). There were 31 male cases (55.4%). The father’s highest education level being high school in 25 cases (44.6%) and the mother’s highest education level being college in 32 cases (57.1%). The father’s occupation was self employed in 26 cases (46.4%), an the mother’s occupation was as an employee in 23 cases (41.4%). The duration of breastfeeding exceeding 6 months was observed in 22 cases (39.3%), with 11 cases (47.8%) having mild myopia. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the incidence of myopia and the characteristic of the respondents(age, gender, parental occupation, parental education). There is no significant association between the incidence of myopia and the duration of breastfeeding.en_US
