Background. Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a significant concern,
characterized by estimated blood loss exceeding 500 ml within 24 hours of a
vaginal birth or any blood loss leading to compromised haemodynamic stability.
The considerable mortality and morbidity rates among PPH patients in Indonesia
highlight the impact of delayed treatment due to suboptimal algorithmic
determination in managing PPH. Therefore, it is crucial for young doctors to
acquire comprehensive knowledge of the algorithm for managing PPH in vaginal
birth. Objective. This study aims to assess the knowledge of Universitas Sumatera
Utara Faculty of Medicine students with the algorithm for managing PPH in
vaginal birth. Method. Conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional study, data
were collected through a questionnaire distributed among students of the Faculty
of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and subsequently analyzed using the
SPSS program. Result. Out of 160 respondents, comprising 46 males and 114
females, 58.1% exhibited an adequate overall understanding. Specifically, 54.4%
demonstrated good comprehension of PPH definition, 53.1% exhibited sound
knowledge of PPH etiology, and 51.9% had a sufficient grasp of the algorithm for
managing PPH in vaginal birth. Conclusion. Overall, the level of knowledge
among students at the Medical Faculty, Universitas Sumatera Utara, regarding
the algorithm for managing Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) in vaginal birth was
deemed to be adequate.
