dc.description.abstract | Background. One of the impacts of the digitalization era felt by all groups is the
increased use of smartphones in everyday life. Many individuals find it difficult to
detach from their smartphones, a phenomenon known as Nomophobia. One of the
causes is the fear of missing information or important moments, referred to as Fear of
Missing Out (FoMO). Aim. This study aims to determine the relationship between
Nomophobia and Fear of Missing Out with the level of anxiety in preclinical students of
the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU). Methods. The
research takes the form of analytical observational with a cross-sectional design. The
target respondents are preclinical students of FK USU from the 2020, 2021, and 2022
cohorts, with a total sample size of 270 individuals. Questionnaires were distributed
offline using papers containing barcodes and links that could be accessed privately by
each cohort's representation and filled out online using Google Form by the
respondents. The variables involved are Nomophobia using the NMP-Q questionnaire,
Fear of Missing Out using the Przybylski FoMO Scale, and anxiety using the ZSRA
questionnaire. Results. Bi-variate results among these three variables show a
relationship, both between Nomophobia and anxiety, FoMO and anxiety, as well as
Nomophobia and FoMO, as evidenced by a P Value <0.001. The risk association
between Nomophobia or FoMO and anxiety is the same in the exposed and unexposed
groups, with a Prevalence Ratio value of 1.226. The risk association between
Nomophobia and FoMO is also the same in the exposed and unexposed groups, with a
Prevalence Ratio value of 1.485. Conclusion. There is a significant relationship
between Nomophobia, FoMO, and anxiety with the same risk association in both
exposed and unexposed groups. Therefore, it is expected that readers will gain a better
understanding of the existence of Nomophobia and FoMO and their impact on anxiety
levels. | en_US |
