Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is the lower respiratory infection which affects lung parenchyma after using mechanic ventilation for 48 hours; it is indicated by new or progressive infiltrate, fever, the change in the number of vaginal discharge cells, and tracheobronchial purulen secretion. A patient with mechanic ventilator has higher risk of affecting by VAP caused by endotracheal tube invasively, installed which can cause bacteria to enter directly the lower respiratory tract since the tube is in the trachea. The implementation of VAP bundle care as a proof-based intervention group becomes an effective step to prevent and increase patients health by facilitating and encouraging changes in the providing nursing care in the ICU. The objective of the research is to analyze determinants that affects intensive care nurses behavior in VAP at H. Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. The research uses quantitative survey approach. The samples is made up of 56 nurses with the inclusion criteria that all of them are active in the ICU. The data are analyzed by using bivariate analysis with chi square test and multivariate analysis with multiple regression tests. The result of multivariate analysis shows that the p-values of the variables of education, length of service, and training were 0.014, 0.064, and 0.013 respectively. These variables simultaneously have significant effects on the respondents behavior in implementing VAP bundle care. The most dominant variable is the availability of facilities because it shows the biggest OR-value (OR-3.486). The respondents who participate in the training have 3,486 times possibility to have better behavior in implementing VAP bundle care than those who do not. It is recommended that the nurses be able to increase their knowledge about implementing the guidance of VAP bundle care which has been implemented by the hospital management.
