dc.description.abstractThis research discusses the story of two people named Angel and Michael Hosea who experience a struggle for love in the novel Redeeming Love, written by Francine Rivers. They become a symbol of love and redemption amid harsh conditions in the novel Redeeming Love. This study aims to determine the character portrayed by the main characters and theme in the novel Redeeming Love. The writer uses the characterization theory from M.J Murphy and the intrinsic theory by Robert Stanton. In completing this research, the writer uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that the main characters, Angel and Michael Hosea, have different backgrounds and traits as well as themes that highlight the character development of the main characters. The results show the nine forms of how the main characters are portrayed revolve around their physical description, character as seen by another, speech, past life, conversation of others, reaction, direct comment, thought, and mannerisms. Meanwhile, the theme of the novel is Angel finds redemption through love which shows the character development of Angel.en_US
