This research discusses the form and impact of applying the Western education system to the novel Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The purpose of this research is to describe the shape and impact of applying the Western education system to the novel Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window. This study uses the theory of Progressivism and Social Impact. The research method used is literature study and qualitative methods. The results of this research indicate the forms of the Western education system applied to the novel Totto-chan: The Little Girl in the Window such as learning based on individual freedom in choosing subjects of interest, students are more active than teachers such as regular study tours, schools and teachers as facilitators and guides such as a place for consultation for students at any time, the application of educational democracy such as determining class schedules and developing teamwork that Totto-chan did with friends while at Toi Hot Springs, then developing critical thinking and problem solving. The impact of applying the Western education system to Tomoe Gakuen schools affects intellectuality, equal rights, and teamwork, but brings moral changes such as eating while talking which is actually not allowed in Japanese culture.
