    Abstract
Background. Hyperuricemia is a condition where there is an increase in uric acid levels in the blood. Prolonged hyperuricemia can cause a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joint cavity which triggers the formation of gouty arthritis. Synthetic therapy for gouty arthritis often causes side effects, resulting in an increase in the use of traditional medicinal plants as alternative treatments. Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC (andaliman) leaves and Coleus amboinicus Lour (bangunbangun) leaves are local wisdom of the Batak people, containing secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins which are considered capable for reducing rat blood uric acid levels. Objective. To determine the effect of giving a combination of andaliman leaves and bangun-bangun leaves extract on uric acid levels in rats. Method. This is a true experimental in vivo study with a pre and post-test control group design. This study used 30 rats consisting of 5 groups, i.e., normal control, negative control, positive control (dexamethasone), low dose EAB (20 mg/200g BW), and high dose EAB (95 mg/200g BW). On the first day, all mice in the treatment group were induced with CFA (0.1 ml/200g BW) followed by chicken liver juice (3ml/200gBW) for 7 days and potassium oxonate (20mg/200gBW). Data analysis used Kruskall-Wallis non-parametric statistical test. Results. EAB doses 20 mg/200g BW and 95 mg/200g BW had an effect on reducing uric acid levels in mice when compared with negative controls. The most optimal reduction in uric acid levels was seen in the EAB group dose 95mg/200gBW. Conclusion. EAB dose 95 mg/200g BW reduce the blood uric acid levels in mice significantly (p value = 0.003).
