Pengaruh Intervensi Family Empowerment terhadap Lama Rawat Pasien Skizofrenia di Rumah Sakit Jiwa Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ildrem

Abstract

Family plays a crucial role in the prevention, self-knowledge, and care for family members who suffer from schizophrenia. Family also gives emotional support and motivation for them to undergo treatment. Therapeutic family, who supports the patients, can really boost the patient's recovery and shorten length of treatment. The role of the family to increase knowledge is by intervention of Family Empowerment: psychoeducation. This research aims to find out the effect of Family Empowerment intervention on the treatment length of patients with schizophrenia in Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ildrem Mental Hospital. The research employs a quasi-experimental design with a control group and accidental sampling technique. Families of schizophrenia patients who are hospitalized in Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ildrem Mental Hospital are used as respondents, with a total of 80 people, namely 40 respondents of the intervention group and 40 respondents of the control group. Data are analysed using Mann-Whitney test.

The research results indicate that the length of treatment for schizophrenic patients in the intervention group is 10-30 days (100%), while in the control group, it takes 10-30 days (57.5%) and 30 days (42.5%). The average treatment length in the intervention group is 18 days and in the control group is 26 days. It indicates that there is an effect of Family Empowerment intervention (psychoeducation) on the treatment length of schizophrenic patients in Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ildrem Mental Hospital, where the result of Mann-Whitney test indicates p-value of 0.00<0.05. It concludes that there is an effect of Family Empowerment (Psychoeducation) intervention on the treatment length of schizophrenic patients in Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ildrem Mental Hospital. It is recommended that the murses provide psychoeducation to families regarding illness and care for patients with schizophrenia. In addition, it is recommended that families support the treatment programs for patients with schizophrenia.
